Preached by Pastor Mike Hess Sunday morning 07/25/2010.

Our Faithful God Working in the Details of Life

Ruth 2:1-13

Introduction:

1.  God’s faithfulness in redemptive history.
2.  God’s faithfulness in your own life.
3.  God’s faithfulness in Christ - The Gospel.

Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

I. God Working in the Details (Ruth 2:1-3)

Romans 8:28
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Ephesians 3:20 “
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think according to the power at work within us.”

II. God Supplying in Abundant Ways (Ruth 2:4-9)

She trusted in the Lord

Her faith was an active faith

James 2:26
“For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.”

John 13:17
“If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”

James 1:22
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

He provides physical provision.

He provides physical protection.

Proverbs 14:12
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”

III. The Reward of Faithfulness (Ruth 2:10-13)

I Timothy 1:13-15
“though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost.”

Psalm 63:7
“for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.”

Matthew 25:23
“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.  Enter into the joy of your master.”

Closing Thoughts:

1.  Psalm 147:10-11
“His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him in those who hope in his steadfast love.”

2.  I Peter 4:10-11
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks the oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies- in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.  To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

3.  It is not Christ that points us to Ruth, rather the book of Ruth points us to Christ- our faithful Redeemer!
