The Spirit + Faith = Goodness

Acts 11:19-30

Pastor Duke Crawford                                              March 9, 2008

Introduction:

The Church at Antioch – The First Gospel Beachhead in Pagan Land

Antioch is the first identified church
outside Jerusalem.

Barnabas and Spiritual Mathematics

vs24 – “For he (Barnabas) was a good man,
full of the Holy Spirit and of faith…”

HOW CAN WE BECOME GOOD LIKE BARNABAS?

1.  By faith, empathize with “outsiders."

Barnabas empathized with the needs of
outsiders, therefore by faith he received
them.

2.  By faith, submit to God’s call through the church.

1) the call of God in Barnabas’ life to
    vocational ministry

2) Barnabas’ submission to God’s calling

3) the role of the church in this matter

3.  By faith, look for the grace of God in others.

4.  By faith, seek the edification of others over yourself.

5.  By faith, break the grip of greed on your life.

Conclusion:

Verse 24 is a great epitaph for anyone.

“He was a good man, full of
the Holy Spirit and of faith.”
