Sherry bio

Sherry VanHooser

What happens when a seven-year-old sees her family dramatically transformed through the gospel of Jesus Christ? An indelible impression is made on her life. Such was the case with Sherry (Rutter) VanHooser. Her own salvation came upon the heels of seeing the changes in her parents’ lives following their salvation. Old things were, indeed, passed away and a new family resulted. That singular event began a life-long thirst to grow to know God and His Word in a life-impacting way.

Upon graduation from high school, Sherry attended a college in the Midwest. Sherry’s father was career military, and it was during a visit to her family at the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that she met Gerald (Jerry) VanHooser. They were married in Charleston, South Carolina, after Jerry completed his Navy tour of duty. It was following training at Baptist Bible College in Pennsylvania that God moved the VanHoosers to minister in Iowa. In the summer of 2004, they completed thirty years of ministry. Currently, the VanHoosers serve the Lord through Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Jerry is the administrative pastor and Sherry is the Director of Women’s Ministries, as well as a Biblical counselor.

Jerry and Sherry’s son, Brant, is an associate pastor at Calvary Baptist Church of Quincy, IL. Daughter-in-law Angelia in addition to being active in the church ministry a stay-at-home mom with Brityna (7 yrs.), Wesley (5 yrs), and Meggy (2 yrs).

Over the years, God in grace has given Sherry opportunities to communicate principles of Biblical living to ladies through many different venues, including Bible study classes and a 3-times a week radio broadcast called “Mom’s Heart Matters.”
