Pastor Mike became the senior pastor at CBC in October 2009 after having pastored in southern Illinois for several years. In October or 2011, he received his certification in counseling from the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors. His passions include the gospel, expository preaching, biblical counseling, shepherding, and reading. He and his wife Christina have been married for 15 years and have two children – Joseph and Hannah. His preaching ministry has opened doors of opportunity to proclaim Christ in several contexts, cultures, and countries. Pastor Mike grew up in the Chicago suburb of Oswego, IL, and came to know Christ as Savior and Lord at the age of 17 after hearing the gospel from a friend in high school. His hobbies include sports, reading, and faithfully rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Please contact Pastor Mike if you have any questions or if there is some way that he can serve you.
Pastor Jerry VanHooser

Pastor Van was reared in a Christian home where ministry and church activities were a priority. However, it was not until he was away from home, serving in the U.S. Navy, that he personally trusted Christ as Savior. In November of 1968, he married Sherry in Charleston, SC. A few months later they moved to Pennsylvania where he attended Bible college until the spring of 1974. In June of that year, they packed all their earthly
belongings into a U-Haul truck and trekked half way across the country to First Baptist Church of Eldora, IA, where he served as assistant to the pastor, and Sherry was the church secretary. By design, that first ministry was to be one year in length, after which it was assumed they would move back East; however, God had other plans. After thirty years as the senior pastor in four Iowa churches, God moved him to Mt. Pleasant to be the associate pastor of administration and counseling at Calvary, assuming this ministry in 2005.
Pastor Matt Reno

Matt Reno was jobless two weeks before he was married. He candidated at CBC July 24th, 2005, and was called to serve as the Youth Pastor. He was married on the 30th to Marcee. They now have two cute-as-can-be children, Titus and Evelyn. Pastor Matt says, “It has been a tremendous joy to see God provide for so many things, big and small. I have truly enjoyed serving the teens and children of CBC. I absolutely love hanging with the teens at camp, on mission trips, and just hanging out at my house. I am humbled with the task that God has given me to serve Him and His people. God is awesome!!!”
Sherry VanHooser

What happens when a seven-year-old sees her family dramatically transformed through the gospel of Jesus Christ? An indelible impression is made on her life. Such was the case with Sherry VanHooser. Her own salvation came upon seeing the profound changes in her parents’ lives following their salvation. Old things were, indeed, passed away, and a new family resulted. Upon graduation from high school, Sherry attended a college in the Midwest. Sherry’s father was career military, and it was during a visit to her family at the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that she met Gerald (Jerry) VanHooser. They were later married in Charleston, South Carolina. Following training at Baptist Bible College in Pennsylvania, God moved the VanHoosers to minister in Iowa. In the summer of 2010, they completed thirty-five years of ministry. Sherry is the Director of Women’s Ministries, as well as a Biblical counselor.
Pastor & Sherry VanHooser have one son, Brant, who is the Pastor for Youth and Music at First Baptist Church, Goshen, IN. Daughter-in-law Angelia is an at-home mom with Brityna, Wesley, Meggy, and Jamys, in addition to being actively involved in their local church.

Sara Campbell

Sara has attended CBC all her life. Upon her graduation from Mount Pleasant Christian School, Sara spent a year at Faith Baptist Bible College. She began working as the part-time secretary at CBC in July of 2004 and is now the part-time receptionist. Sara enjoys fellowshipping with other believers, being a leader in the CBC Youth Team, reading, and many facets of music. Her favorite season is winter, and she loves snow! She loves people and looks forward to continuing her ministry at CBC!
